Halloween isn’t Halloween until you sit back and enjoy a good old horror flick with friends or family. But choosing the right one is where the real horror begins. I mean, you can’t really scare the kids by watching a full-blown nightmare, right? Therefore, it is important to read the room so that you can decide on a movie that fits everyone’s vibe.
And remember, no Halloween movie night survives without a solid internet service. You can’t let that buffering wheel kill your fear factor before it kicks in. So, make sure you prepare before you hit play.
When it comes to watching Halloween movies, there are different genres for you to choose from. You can go for full-out horror, horror comedies, romantic horror movies, and so on. Here’s a breakdown of Halloween movies by mood, and where to stream them, so that you can set the atmosphere.
Halloween Movies by Mood
For Adrenaline Junkies
This section is for the die-hard horror fans, the ones who know no bounds when it comes to horror, and watching a good scary flick is like a sport to them. Here’s a list of movies that you should check out.
Final Destination: Bloodlines
Where to Stream: HBO Max
Running Time: 1h 50m

The latest installment of Final Destination dropped earlier this year, and instead of using random characters, they chose one family for this one, which gave a unique touch to the movie. The movie revolves around the concept of how one person in the family cheated death in the past, and in the present, Death is hunting down the successors one by one.
If you’re into gore, then this movie is for you. It has the kind of scenes that have you digging your fingernails in your cheeks in anxiety and anticipation, and the kind of horrific scenes that make you squint and go “oooooooh”. It’s definitely among the best horror movies of 2025.
The Conjuring: Last Rites
Where to Stream: Apple TV (After the theatrical run finishes)
Running Time: 2h 15m

If I were to tell you about my favorite horror movie franchises of all time, then Conjuring will definitely be among the top 5. There wasn’t one movie that I didn’t watch in the cinema, which includes the spin-off movies, including the Annabelle series.
The movie took the Warrens back to their first-ever case involving a demonic mirror, which makes a return in the present time. What’s great about the movie is that we see an all-grown-up Judy Warren, who is a medium, just like her mother, Lorraine Warren, meaning that both of them can see and talk to spirits.
To spook up your Halloween, make sure you have either this or any Conjuring movie on your list, since they are among the best Halloween movies to stream.
Sinister
Where to Stream: Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix (Based on Local Availability)
Running Time: 1h 50m

It would have been a crime not to mention Sinister in this list, since it is among my favorite horror movies of all time. The best thing about Sinister is that not only is the first part great, but its successor is equally amazing too. This is why I believe both Sinister and Sinister 2 should be among your Halloween watchlist 2025.
Sinister is about a true-crime author named Ellison who moves to a house with his family to write about the recent family homicide that took place there, with the youngest child in the family gone missing. Upon investigating, he comes across a box in the attic containing Super-8 format films and a projector. When he plays them, he discovers a string of murders going back years, all backed up by a demon called Bughuul (the taker of children).
Sinister is the kind of movie that makes you grip your sofa in anticipation as you wait to see what unfolds next. It is certainly the kind of movie that you can’t miss out on, especially on a spooky night such as Halloween.
Fear Street Trilogy
Where to Stream: Netflix
Running Time: Part One (1h 47m), Part Two (1h 50m), Part Three (1h 54m)

If you’re looking for scary movies to watch on Netflix, then you should definitely watch the Netflix-exclusive Fear Street trilogy. The movies are a continuation, so make sure to watch all three for the story to make sense. All three movies revolve around the curse of Sara Fiers, a famous witch who was known to have cursed the Shadyside Town back in the 1600s.
After every couple of years, the curse resurfaces, and teenagers start getting brutally killed all through town. However, a teenager named Deena Johnson takes it upon herself and tries to stop the curse alongside her brother and her best friends.
For Laugh Seekers
Now, for the family-friendly Halloween movies, here are some horror movies that you can enjoy watching with your family. While they might not be entirely horror, you’ll still have fun watching them with your kids, nieces, and nephews.
Scooby-Doo
Where to Stream: HBO Max and Prime Video
Running Time: 1h 27m

Though this movie is considered pretty old since it was released in 2002, I can't tell you the number of times I’ve watched this with my family. It’s the perfect combination of scary and funny for a kid, making the movie a very memorable experience. This was the first live-action Scooby-Doo movie, and the studios did a brilliant job in replicating the Scooby-Doo spirit.
In the movie, the mystery gang travels to Spooky Island, a theme park where the team reunites after a two-year hiatus. The reason they travel there is because of some spooky events going on with the people who visit the amusement park. The movie is full of humor and Scooby snacks, making it a great pick to watch with your family.
Hotel Transylvania
Where to Stream: Hulu, Freeform, Apple TV, and Prime Video
Running Time: 1h 31m

Animated movies are always a great choice to watch with your family, especially when it comes to Hotel Transylvania. The movie revolves around Count Dracula, who runs a resort for ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural entities, and lives with his teenage daughter, Mavis.
However, havoc ensues when a human named Jonathan unknowingly reaches the resort, mistaking it for a regular hotel. In the process, Jonathan falls in love with Mavis and vice versa, while Dracula and all the other monsters try to prevent that with everything they’ve got. The movie has the best sort of comedy you’d ever see, making Hotel Transylvania one of the movies that you can’t miss out on.
Plus, the movie has an amazing voice cast, with Andy Samberg portraying Jonathan, Adam Sandler as Dracula, Selena Gomez playing Mavis, and Kevin James as Frankenstein.
Monster House
Where to Stream: Netflix
Running Time: 1h 31m

Monster House is the perfect movie to watch with your family since it has subtle creepiness and the kind of humor that your kids would miss out on, but you’ll understand right away, making it 10 times better. The movie is about a trio of children investigating a house that they believe to be a monster itself.
At first, they conduct surveillance of the house from a distance, but then they decide to infiltrate the house to figure out what is going on inside and why the erratic man who lives there is so shady about it. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens next!
For Couples
Yes, this is a genre, and it is waiting for you to watch it. There are some couple-centric horror movies that you can watch with your partner, all snuggled up in a blanket with hot cocoa. Here’s a list of movies that you guys can consider watching.
Warm Bodies
Where to Stream: Prime Video
Running Time: 1h 38m

This is one of the most heartfelt movies that you can watch with your significant other. The movie is set in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world where a zombie falls in love with a human. What spoke to me most about the movie was the unconventional storyline, which made the movie stand out (and it still does).
The zombie saves the girl during a situation that goes out of hand, and in the process, he develops feelings for her. However, due to obvious differences, they are not able to pursue their feelings for each other. Things start taking a turn for the better when the zombies begin showing signs of going back to human. Again, this is the kind of movie that should definitely be on your list of romantic Halloween movies to watch.
Crimson Peak
Where to Stream: Prime Video
Running Time: 1h 59m

If you’re into Victorian-style gothic horror, then this movie is definitely for you. While the movie was released 10 years ago, it’s still a great movie that you shouldn’t miss out on. The movie is about a young woman named Edith who marries an eccentric man named Thomas, whose family holds a lot of dark secrets.
However, once she moves into the house on Crimson Peak (despite being warned by her mother’s ghost not to go there), Edith finds out that the house is full of ghosts as she goes on to uncover her husband and his family’s dark secrets.
Life After Beth
Where to Stream: Netflix
Running Time: 1h 31m

You know what the best kinds of horror movies are? The ones that have a comedic touch to them. In that case, you must ensure that Life After Beth makes its way to your list of Halloween movies to watch as well. In fact, this Halloween streaming guide would have been incomplete without a movie that offers a dash of comedy as well.
Life After Beth is about a couple, Zach and Beth, whose story is like no other. After Beth passes away, Zach spends his time being sad, but he is taken aback when Beth comes back to life as a zombie, and she isn’t the same way as she used to be. While the movie isn’t what you would call a horror movie, the comedy in the movie makes it a good pick for Halloween this year.
For Classic Lovers
You can’t be a true horror fan if you aren’t a fan of the classics and cult classics. While these movies may be pretty old, they were still ahead of their time. Here are some you should definitely check out this Halloween.
Psycho
Where to Stream: Peacock, Apple TV
Running Time: 1h 49m

You can’t expect a story from Alfred Hitchcock not to be good. 1960s Psycho proves exactly that. The movie revolves around a young man named Norman Bates who runs the Bates Motel, but aside from that, he also has homicidal tendencies and is a murderer since he suffers from psychosis.
In fact, the movie was so good that there was a contemporary prequel show made about the story called Bates Motel, with Freddie Highmore taking on the role of Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates, Norman’s mother. I urge you not only to watch the movie but the show as well.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Where to Stream: HBO Max
Running Time: 1h 31m

If you go to sleep, Freddie Krueger will haunt your dreams and kill you. This concept was always ahead of its time, and it was the kind of movie that would make you stay up all night. Therefore, I recommend that you grab a couple of friends this Halloween and have a movie night where you all watch A Nightmare on Elm Street. I guarantee you no one will fall asleep, or Freddie will come haunt you.
Halloween
Where to Stream: Netflix (Depending on Your Local Availability)
Running Time: 1h 31m

Halloween isn’t really Halloween without Halloween (if that makes sense to you). Being among the best slashers of all time, if you’re a fan of gore, then this is a movie that you wouldn’t want to miss out on. The movie is about a serial killer called Michael Myers, who even today is considered to be among the most menacing villains of all time.
There have been a lot of remakes of the movie, but the original is something else, and nothing can replace it.
The Shining
Where to Stream: HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV
Running Time: 2h 26m

Stephen King has always been a master of his craft when it comes to horror novels. Not only did he write a brilliant book titled The Shining, but the book was also adapted into an iconic movie as well, since “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. In the movie, a man named Jack Torrance is told to take care of the Overlook Hotel during the off-season.
However, Jack eventually begins losing his sanity because of the spirits in the hotel and eventually starts attacking his own family. The movie has some iconic scenes, such as the twins in front of the elevators and the pool of blood flowing out. This is definitely something you don’t want to miss.
